Current Dedicated Server Configurations in Stockholm
Three configurations are currently listed. Each one is a complete physical server at GleSYS in Stockholm, and every configuration includes the same network, DDoS and support terms.
Intel Xeon E3-1240 v2, 16 GB RAM, $139 per month
A single-processor Xeon server with 16 GB of memory and a choice of 2x 1 TB HDD or 2x 240 GB SSD. It is a compact, efficient machine for a dedicated game server, a mid-sized web application, a mail server or a backup target. Pick SSD for faster databases or HDD for more capacity.
2x Intel Xeon E5620, 24 GB RAM, 4x 1 TB HDD RAID, $239 per month
A dual-processor server with four 1 TB hard drives in RAID. The extra drives make it the capacity choice of the range: useful for file storage, media libraries, log retention, backup repositories and applications that need several terabytes rather than raw speed.
2x Intel Xeon E5-2430L v2, 64 GB RAM, $399 per month
The most powerful option pairs two Xeon processors with 64 GB of memory and either 2x 480 GB SSD or 1 TB HDD. The large memory allowance suits databases, virtualisation hosts running several guests, game networks with multiple instances and in-memory caches such as Redis.
How the 20 Gbit/s DDoS Shield Protects Your Server
A distributed denial-of-service attack floods a server or its network with traffic from many sources at once, aiming to make it unreachable for legitimate users. Game servers, voice platforms, streaming services, forums and online shops are frequent targets, sometimes because of competition, sometimes simply because they are public and popular.
Every dedicated server in this range includes 20 Gbit/s of DDoS protection. Traffic is inspected upstream, and attack traffic is filtered before it can saturate your 1 Gbps port, while legitimate visitors continue to reach your services. Because protection sits in the network rather than on the server itself, your CPU and memory remain free to run your application during an attack.
For high-profile services, tournaments, large community launches or businesses that have already been targeted, the 100 Gbit/s add-on raises the protection ceiling substantially. You can discuss whether you need it in a sales ticket before ordering.
Network-level protection works best alongside good practice on the server: close ports you do not use, rate-limit login endpoints, and keep administration interfaces restricted to trusted IP addresses.
Inside the GleSYS Tier III+ Facility in Stockholm
GleSYS operates the infrastructure that hosts our Swedish dedicated servers. The facility is classified Tier III+, meaning it is built with redundant power and cooling paths so that components can be maintained or replaced without shutting down the equipment they serve. For a physical server, where you cannot simply migrate a virtual machine to another host, the quality of the building matters a great deal.
The Stockholm location gives your server the same advantages that make Sweden attractive for any hosting project: direct reach to Swedish and Nordic networks, a largely low-carbon electricity supply and a position inside the European Union for GDPR purposes. Dedicated hardware also helps when customers or auditors ask about isolation, since no other tenant runs code on your machine.
Servers are built from Dell and SuperMicro components and are tested before delivery. Once your server is online, you manage it directly with root or administrator access, and our team handles hardware issues through the support ticket system.
When to Move From a Sweden VPS to Dedicated Hardware
Many customers start on a VPS and later move to dedicated hardware. Knowing the signals helps you make that move at the right time rather than too early or too late.
- Your workload needs exclusive hardware. Some software licences, compliance requirements or performance tests call for a physical machine with no other tenants.
- You are a DDoS target. VPS plans do not list DDoS protection, while every dedicated server includes 20 Gbit/s with a 100 Gbit/s add-on.
- You need lots of storage. The 4x 1 TB HDD configuration gives several terabytes, more than the largest VPS plan's 400 GB.
- You want to run your own virtualisation. A dedicated server can host Proxmox, Hyper-V or another hypervisor so you can carve it into your own virtual machines.
- Memory-heavy applications. The 64 GB configuration doubles the memory of the largest VPS.
On the other hand, if your project fits comfortably within a VPS and you value fast provisioning and flexible resizing, staying virtual is perfectly reasonable. Our team can review your current usage and recommend the right step.
Choosing a RAID Level and Disk Layout
Disk layout is one of the first decisions on a dedicated server and one of the hardest to change later. Each configuration supports hardware or software RAID, and the right level depends on the number of drives and what you value most.
RAID1 for two-disk servers
With two drives, as on the E3-1240 v2 and E5-2430L v2 configurations, RAID1 mirrors every block to both disks. If one fails, the server keeps running on the other while it is replaced. Capacity equals one drive, but resilience is high.
RAID10 or RAID5 on four drives
The dual E5620 server with 4x 1 TB HDD gives more options. RAID10 mirrors and stripes, delivering good write performance and resilience with 2 TB usable. RAID5 offers about 3 TB usable at the cost of slower writes and longer rebuilds.
Hardware versus software RAID
Hardware RAID offloads the work to a controller and presents a single volume to the operating system, which can simplify Windows installs. Software RAID with mdadm or ZFS on Linux is transparent, easy to monitor and portable between machines. Whichever you choose, RAID is not a backup: always keep copies elsewhere.
Linux and Windows Server 2019 or 2022 on Bare Metal
Dedicated servers are installed with Linux or with Windows Server 2019 or 2022 before delivery. The choice shapes everything from your management tools to your licensing.
Linux suits web hosting stacks, containers, game servers, databases and virtualisation platforms such as Proxmox VE. Distributions like Ubuntu Server, Debian, AlmaLinux and Rocky Linux are common choices, each with long-term support releases suitable for servers that will run for years.
Windows Server 2019 is a mature release that many business applications explicitly support. Windows Server 2022 brings newer security features and a longer support horizon, making it the better default for new deployments unless your software vendor specifies 2019. Both can run IIS, SQL Server, Active Directory roles and Hyper-V.
If you plan to install something unusual, such as a specific hypervisor or a custom image, mention it in a sales ticket before ordering so the team can confirm it fits the hardware and RAID controller.
Dedicated Game Networks and Streaming Origins in Sweden
Sweden's gaming and streaming scene makes Stockholm a natural home for servers that need to be fast, stable and resistant to attack. A dedicated machine gives game communities the consistent single-thread performance that many game engines depend on, without the variability that can come from sharing a host.
Common setups on our Stockholm hardware include:
- Multiple Minecraft, Rust, ARK or Counter-Strike instances behind a proxy, with the 64 GB configuration hosting the whole network on one box.
- Voice platforms such as TeamSpeak and Mumble, which are frequent DDoS targets and benefit directly from the included protection.
- Streaming origins and restream relays that push video to viewers or several platforms simultaneously, using the 50 TB monthly transfer.
- Tournament infrastructure, where the 100 Gbit/s add-on gives extra assurance during high-visibility events.
Players across Sweden, Norway, Denmark and Finland connect over short routes to Stockholm, and audiences in northern and central Europe are also within comfortable reach.
Running Databases and Private Virtualisation on GleSYS Hardware
Beyond gaming, dedicated servers are the workhorse for data-heavy and infrastructure workloads. Two patterns are especially common.
Database servers
MySQL, MariaDB, PostgreSQL and Microsoft SQL Server all perform best when their working set fits in memory. The 64 GB configuration with SSD storage is the obvious choice for production databases behind busy online stores, SaaS platforms or analytics tools. Keeping the database on its own physical server also simplifies GDPR documentation, since the data sits on known hardware in Stockholm.
Private virtualisation
Installing Proxmox VE, Hyper-V or another hypervisor lets you split a dedicated server into your own virtual machines. Agencies use this to give each client an isolated environment, developers use it for test labs, and businesses run several internal services on one box. Two Xeon processors and 64 GB of memory provide enough capacity for a meaningful number of small guests.
Whichever pattern you follow, plan backups to a separate location and monitor disk health so a failing drive can be replaced before it becomes a problem.
From Order to Handover: What Happens After You Buy
Ordering a dedicated server takes a few minutes; preparing the hardware takes a little longer. Here is what to expect:
- Select a configuration and choose your storage option, RAID type and operating system.
- Pay the first month by cryptocurrency, Visa, Mastercard, PayPal or bank transfer. There is no setup fee.
- Hardware preparation begins at GleSYS in Stockholm, where the server is assembled, tested and installed.
- Delivery follows within one to three days, with access credentials and network details sent to your client area.
- First login: update the operating system, set up SSH keys or strong administrator passwords, configure a firewall and install monitoring.
If you are migrating from another provider, start copying data as soon as the server is delivered, then follow the same approach used for VPS migrations: lower DNS TTLs, run a final sync and switch records. Questions during any step can go to the technical department through a support ticket.
Planning Bandwidth Around 50 TB of Monthly Transfer
Unlike our VPS plans, which have unlimited traffic, dedicated servers include a generous 50 TB of transfer per month on a 1 Gbps port. For the vast majority of projects that allowance is more than enough, but it is worth a quick estimate if you run bandwidth-heavy services.
A useful rule of thumb: a 1 Gbps port running flat out for an entire month would move roughly 320 TB, so 50 TB corresponds to an average of around 150 Mbps sustained, day and night. Most websites, game servers and databases use only a small fraction of that. Video streaming and large file distribution are the workloads most likely to approach the limit.
To keep an eye on usage, install a tool such as vnStat on Linux or check network counters in Windows Performance Monitor, and review totals weekly. Caching static assets, compressing responses and offloading large downloads to a content delivery network all reduce transfer. If you expect to need more, raise it in a sales ticket so we can discuss options before you order.
